Who are we? The Jamaica Institute of Environmental Professionals (JIEP) has as its primary mandate to maintain high standards of professionalism among its members in order to improve the environmental management capacity and practices in Jamaica. The JIEP has been a leader in dealing with environmental issues in Jamaica and the Caribbean through information exchange and technical services. It has successfully hosted three previous conferences on the environment and in 2007 was instrumental in the formation of the Caribbean Association of Environmental Professionals.
Background to the Conference Climate change is one of the most critical global challenges of our time. Recent events have emphatically demonstrated our growing vulnerability to climate change. Climate change impacts will range from affecting agriculture, further endangering food security, sea-level rise and the accelerated erosion of coastal zones, increasing intensity of natural disasters, species extinction and the spread of vector-borne diseases (UNEP). As possibly the most critical and far reaching developmental issue facing the world and the region it is important at this time to provide up-to-date and accurate information and to examine the options available for addressing the issues.
Conference Objectives The objective is to provide a forum to examine and discuss the issues of global climate change, what it means for the Caribbean and the initiatives that have been undertaken globally, regionally and locally to address this problem. International, regional and local experts will be invited to make presentations on various aspects of climate change and propose solutions to this global problem. Conference participants will have the opportunity to field questions to the panel of experts to answers questions and clarify previously held misconceptions. Exhibitors will be invited to showcase solution oriented products and initiatives geared towards mitigation and adaptation. The conference will culminate with a public lecture by an internationally renowned climate change advocate to bring the message of climate change to a wider and more diverse audience.

Target Audience The target audience will be the private and public sector, stakeholders, NGO’s, environmental professionals, students and the general public from Jamaica and the Wider Caribbean.
