JIEP to Advance Formation of Caribbean Environmental Professionals Body

Advertial CAEPThe Jamaica Institute of Environmental Professionals (JIEP) will continue to lead activities aimed at establishing a regional association of Environmental Professionals at a workshop at the Jamaica Pegasus, May 3-5, attended by regional environmental professionals, a steering committee headed by the JIEP’s Denise Forrest, was elected to advance formation of the CIEP. Other members of the Steering Committee are Peter Reeson, JIEP President; Dr. Paulette Bynoe of Guyana; Dr. Vernese Inniss of Barbados; and Farzia Hausil of Suriname.

The establishment of a Caribbean Association of Environmental Professionals is one of two projects currently being implemented by the JIEP, with funding from the Center for the Development of Enterprise in Brussels.  The other is capacity building for the implementation of Environmental Management Systems in 8 Jamaican small businesses.

Participating in the workshop were professionals from Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

Facilitators of the workshop were representatives from the 3P Consortium for Environmental Management in Germany.

The JIEP is the umbrella organization for professionals engaged in environmental management in Jamaica. It’s membership includes over 60 educators, scientists, academics, lawyers, consultants and others.
